Love

Everybody’s seen a reference to John 3:16 somewhere, on signs in sports venues, or t-shirts, posters, and other souvenirs. But there’s more to the verse.

Joy

Joy is not the same thing as happiness. The Bible acknowledges that we’re going to go through some stuff in our lives. Yes, we’ll cry. Yes, we’ll be sad. Yes, there is death in this world. Yes, there will be difficult times. But that doesn’t mean you cannot have joy.

Peace

Try to lean into the promises of God, and remember that we need to “be still” even in the present. This will pass. Do not worry or be afraid. Try to live in the moment, and be at peace.

Hope and Anticipation

Whoever says “Yeah! I get to wait longer! That’s awesome!” Most people don’t like waiting. These days, we almost never wait anymore. Our attention is always on something else. But Advent is about waiting, and holding onto hope.

Sentimentality
