Alum Creek Church
Philosophy of Ministry
Our ministry is designed around some basic SEEDS: Spirituality: Our main goal in our youth ministry program is to instill an authentic and real spirituality into each one of our teenagers. By spirituality we are referring to the teenagers development in the spiritual disciplines. Teenagers are encouraged through our youth program to pray, fast, meditate, and reflect on their relationship with God. Edification: Our ministry does not exist in isolation of the many other positive ministries Alum Creek supports. Our teenagers are core aspects of our congregation. They are involved in planning worship services, attending multi-generational activities, and area-wide youth group efforts. We strive to oppose the "lone ranger" mentality of youth ministry. Evangelism: In a nutshell, our youth ministry believes we have found something out (namely the salvific implications of the Messiah) that we believe everyone must know about. Sharing the story we have uncovered with others along the journey will inevitably lead to increased participation of the community. Discipleship: Jesus expects his followers to be disciples. In order to do that we must pursue discipleship. Discipleship is, in essence, following in the footsteps of the Savior. Learning to live the life Christ lived is a lifelong process, and we hope to take a major step forward in our youth ministry. Service: As Jesus stooped down to wash his disciples' feet, there was nothing within himself other than the heart of a servant. Jesus served those around him because he loved them. We must learn to love them, and that love will turn into serving them. Service has become a major emphasis in ACYM.
